Pandit Lakshmikanta Moitra was born on 23rd July 1895 at Narayanganj, Dhaka, now in Bangladesh at his father’s working place. His father was Rajanikanta and mother was Jadubala. He has successfully completed schooling at Narayanganj High School and college at Dhaka Govt. College. After that he has admitted at Calcutta Presidency College for BA degree. After completing he has done LLB from Calcutta University. He has achieved the title ‘Pandit’ for his excellency in Sanskrit. He played a vital role for drafting the Indian Constitution. He was established ‘Santipur College’ ‘Shantipur Bangia Puran Parishad’. He has modernized Santipur Railway Station and took the initiation for broad gauge line. He has fought against when our Santipur became a part of Bangladesh. As a consequence of that Santipur got freedom on 17th August 1947.
His son Kashikanta Moitra was a famous lawyer and Member of Parliament and his grandson Subrata Moitra was a famous Doctor.
In memory of that great personality Santipur Marami has announced an award as Pandit Lakshmikanta Moitra Memorial Awards for excellent result in Higher Secondary Examination every year since 2016.
